The “Believe in MIRACLES” bracelet was the creative idea of Jenna’s older brother, Brett Kast. While accompanying Jenna on her trips to Children’s Hospital of Detroit, Brett saw firsthand the suffering and hardships that many children face. As a result, he became determined to help these sick children in some way. Brett had undoubtedly been influenced by the kindness and loving support that our family received from the community during our most trying times. To be on the receiving end of such good works really encouraged us as a family to be open to God’s calling to serve others and share our great blessings. Our son’s idea would help us accomplish this goal.
Brett’s original intention was to raise some money to buy a gift for a child at the hospital. After discussing the idea with his friend, JD Sterba, the two 10 year old boys came up with a plan to design a bracelet similar to the Lance Armstrong wristbands. They decided to use the money raised from the sale of these bracelets to buy gifts for children who were suffering and also to donate to the American Brain Tumor Association.

In January of 2005, the boys began selling the bracelets in their school, at their church and throughout their community. The bracelets were a big hit and we were amazed when they sold out so quickly. But the Lord had bigger plans for us. Someone called the media and the boys were interviewed on a local television station. Soon, we had so many checks coming in that we had to set up an account and form a foundation—a foundation that the Lord has truly been in charge of right from the very start.
Today we continue the Believe in Miracles’ mission through the sale of bracelets, donations and various fundraisers. It is our pledge to bring a smile to a child’s face while supporting research to find a cure for brain cancer.
